NO POVERTY
In Africa and some parts of the world, children go to sleep hungry, it is the right of every child to eat a healthy meal and have access to drink clean water.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, it is estimated that over 41% of the population lives below the poverty line of $1.9 a day. This region also has both the highest rates of women (62.8%) and children (46%) living in extreme poverty. This worrisome statistic is particularly troubling for this marginalized group, who are more vulnerable to the far-reaching effects that poverty has on our daily lives.
Every day, gender gaps and biases are widening as the harsh economic realities increase. In Nigeria alone, over 15% of workers lost their jobs during the pandemic. This rise in unemployment coupled with the alarming rate of inflation is making the poor poorer. A large number of young people are not employed or even employable, lacking the relevant skills to make an honest living. It is no wonder that crime is on the increase on the continent.
Zainab Ahmed Foundation is out of a burning desire to see poverty eradicated in Nigeria and the marginalized groups thoroughly empowered to be financially free. We believe in the vast human resource potential in Africa and are guided by SDG 1: To ‘END TO POVERTY IN ALL ITS FORMS’ by 2030
